The Grounds
The grounds at Chez Charente are spacious and secluded, providing several different areas of both private gardens and communal spaces, in which to sit and enjoy the countryside and the peace and quiet.
The grounds are on a split level with the farmhouse being on the lower level. Access to the house is via some ancient stone steps or, for those with more limited mobility, there is a second set of gates on the lower level.
We try to make your stay as relaxed as possible and are on hand to provide any support you might require. We live in an entirely separate cottage tucked away at the rear of the property.

The private garden
The farmhouse has its own large private garden which is completely enclosed for your peace of mind. In this garden you have a BBQ and two outdoor seating areas for those long balmy evenings eating alfresco; one a shaded, walled patio area outside the main doors and the other in the grassy garden.
You are welcome to help yourself to fresh herbs from the herb garden or fruit from the fruit trees, starting with the juicy dark cherries in June.
Taking some toys from the small toy barn, the children have plenty of space to run around or play on the swing and slide set whilst you relax on the sofas, under the shade of the trees.
The communal areas
Underneath the shade of the lime trees you will find comfortable sofas for a snooze. It is also a great spot to read a book or unwind with a sundowner. Many an evening our guests spend here stargazing at the huge skies and spotting a shooting star or two.
Swimming pool – on the upper level you will find the enclosed figure of 8 shaped pool (shared only with the owners), plenty of sunloungers and enough space to sit either in full sun on the deck or on the giant bean bags on the grass in dappled shade.
Sand pit & trampoline – situated conveniently next to the sofas is the large, netted trampoline. Adults and children spend many happy hours bouncing away some of their excess energy. Also, here you will find a huge, sail shaded sandpit equipped with all the sandpit toys your children will need to complete their sandy adventures.
Toy barn – there is a small toy barn with loads of toys to play with in the gardens, sit-on bikes and cars, bats, balls, toys for construction and for make believe games.
A few french hens and some furry friends – we have a few hens that are delighted when small people deliver their veggie scraps in exchange for some fresh eggs for breakfast. Our dog, Nori, and our cat, Poppy, are both popular with the children; however, Nori lives in our private garden and only visits if invited round to play.
Car park – There is parking here for several cars and the area is monitored by cctv.
The whole of the grounds are enclosed and gated so your children are safe, however children should be supervised here at all times.
The communal areas are shared only between your party and us as a family, with the exception of visitors using the car park.
